The Abia State Police Command has launched a manhunt for a fleeing gate-man after his employer, a retired nurse was murdered in Umuahia, the State’s capital.
The victim, Mrs Queeneth Alozie, was a retiree from the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Umuahia, and also wife of the owner of the popular Obioma hospital located at School Road Umuahia.
Mrs Alozie was allegedly murdered on Sunday April 25, by yet-to be identified assailants.
Until her death, she was living in her husband’s house at Enyinnaya Ogbulafor drive, opposite the Broadcasting Corporation of Abia State, with two gate-men as her children are all based outside the country.
She had recently employed the fleeing gate-man from her maternal home in Mbaise, Imo State.
According to the older security man, he returned from church but found the gate under lock and keys on attempt to enter the premises.
He said; “I called his (gate-man’s) phone number many times and his line was switched off. I then called that of my madam, there was also no response.
He is said to have alerted neigbours who broke into the compound through the back door and discovered the widow in a pool of her blood, sustaining an axe cut on her head.
The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Geoffrey Ogbonna, on Tuesday, said investigations were on to unravel the circumstances surrounding the gruesome murder.
The National Association of Nigeria Nurses and Midwives of Abia State had on Tuesday, April 27, staged a protest over the killing of Mrs Alozie.
The nurses had placards with inscriptions “those involved in this wicked act will not go free, Our Lives are under threat, today it is Queeneth, Who knows whom it may be tomorrow, Nurses Lives Matters, Nurses should be protected”.
They called on the State government and security agencies to fish out the perpetrator of the crime for justice to prevail.
