Hon. Ikeagwuonu Ugochinyere, a federal lawmaker and outspoken PDP chieftain from Imo State, has raised the alarm that 40 lawmakers and two governors are finalizing plans to defect from the party due to escalating internal crisis, leadership failure, and alleged sabotage from within.
In a no-holds-barred video shared on social media, Ugochinyere painted a dire picture of the PDP’s current state, accusing key party leaders of deliberately plotting its downfall. He revealed that unless urgent corrective action is taken, the mass defection could happen “within days.”
“Because of the crisis in the party, I can confirm to you that two more governors in the party want to decamp and 40 lawmakers also want to decamp,” Ugochinyere declared.
At the center of his fiery accusations are two top PDP figures—Minister of the FCT, Nyesom Wike, and PDP National Secretary, Senator Samuel Anyanwu—whom he accused of acting as internal saboteurs working to destroy the party from within.
He described Anyanwu as “an APC agent and a political coward” who has no shame in helping bury Africa’s biggest opposition party. He accused Wike of “perfecting fresh plans to paralyse the party’s leadership using multiple lawsuits.”
According to Ugochinyere, the continued presence of Wike and Anyanwu in PDP’s leadership structure is an existential threat to the party’s future. He demanded their immediate expulsion by the National Working Committee (NWC) and called for the ratification of the removal of Acting National Chairman Umar Damagum.
“The NWC must immediately summon an emergency meeting, with or without Damagum, and expel Anyanwu the political traitor. They must also ratify Damagum’s removal and appoint a credible North-Central figure as national chairman,” he said.
He further declared that the Imo State chapter of the PDP has already expelled Anyanwu and installed Chris Odoemenam as acting state chairman. Ugochinyere, who identifies as the state leader of the party, urged the national body to immediately recognize Odoemenam’s leadership for internal reforms to begin.
“Chris Odoemenam is our state acting chairman, and the NWC must recognise that. The cleansing must start now,” he said.
But the lawmaker didn’t stop there. He warned that a coordinated legal assault was already underway to incapacitate the party’s NWC, allegedly orchestrated by those who have done “irreparable damage” to the PDP.
“They have perfected fresh plans to ensure the NWC is incapacitated with multiple suits filed at the Federal High Court. PDP is sinking and sinking fast,” he warned.
Ugochinyere warned that if the party fails to act swiftly and decisively, it risks total disintegration, especially ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Political observers now await whether the PDP leadership will heed Ugochinyere’s warnings or continue down what critics are calling a suicidal path paved with silence, sabotage, and internal betrayal.
