2027: Kwankwaso Demands Presidential or VP Ticket Before Joining Any Party

Rabiu Kwankwaso, the national leader of the New Nigerian Peoples Party, NNPP, has laid down clear conditions for any political alliance ahead of the 2027 general election.

Kwankwaso said he will not join any party or coalition unless he is offered either the presidential or vice-presidential ticket.

He made it clear that negotiations without such terms are meaningless to him and his political movement.

The former Kano State governor stated that the NNPP is open to mergers and alliances. However, he stressed that any party seeking his support must be ready to make major concessions.

According to him, leadership of the ticket is not negotiable.

Speaking to his supporters in Kano on Saturday, Kwankwaso openly addressed the ongoing political talks surrounding his future. He confirmed that discussions are ongoing but warned that not all offers would be accepted.

“We are looking for a party, but they must agree to give me, Rabiu Kwankwaso, a presidential or vice-presidential ticket,” he said.

His comment comes amid growing speculation over his next political move. Several parties are reportedly courting him as preparations for 2027 quietly gather pace.

There have been strong talks linking Kwankwaso to the African Democratic Congress, ADC. The party has recently attracted major political figures across party lines.

Among them are former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate Peter Obi, and former Minister of Transportation, Chibuike Amaechi. All are believed to have presidential ambitions.

The presence of several heavyweight aspirants within the ADC has raised questions about how a consensus candidate would emerge. Kwankwaso’s latest demand suggests he is unwilling to play a secondary role in any crowded field.

There are also reports that the ruling All Progressives Congress is making moves to bring Kwankwaso into its fold. The plan is said to be part of efforts to strengthen President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027.

Kwankwaso did not directly confirm talks with the APC. However, his stance signals that he is not interested in joining any ruling party arrangement without a clear place at the top of the ticket.

In the 2023 presidential election, Kwankwaso contested under the NNPP. He finished third, trailing behind President Tinubu, Atiku Abubakar, and Peter Obi.

Despite the outcome, his strong showing in Kano and parts of the North cemented his influence as a major political force.
