2023: Why I Visited Gov. Wike, London – Peter Obi Speaks
The presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi has revealed why he visited Rivers state governor Nyesom Wike and recently his trip to London.
Obi had on Wednesday, June 22, visited Wike in Port Harcourt, a move that raised speculations that he was considering converting Wike to become his running mate.
Speaking on Arise TV Morning Show, monitored by All Facts Newspaper on Wednesday, July 6, Peter Obi categorically stated that his visit to Wike was to deliberate on how to move Nigeria forward.
“He (Wike) is a governor of a state that is strategically important to the future. Ports in Port Harcourt can help de-congest the ones in Lagos to generate appropriate revenue. I did not go to visit him for a gang-up” Obi clarified.
The presidential candidate also stated that he and Wike have a cordial relationship, adding that he helped him during his time as governor in Anambra state.
“He supported me with UBEC and everything when we had issues with teachers” Obi said adding that he would visit other state governors in subsequent time.
On why he traveled to London on Sunday, Obi said;
“I am talking to people who can help us find support to be able to turn around the situations we are in.
“it was a business meeting; talking to people; how are you going to help us?”.
