2023: Peter Obi Groups Adopt Ikonne For Gov, Ikpeazu For Senate

Ahead of the 2023 general election, two groups campaigning for the election of the presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Mr. Peter Obi, in Abia State, have adopted Governor Okezie Ikpeazu for the Abia South senatorial seat.

The groups also adopted the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Prof. Uche Ikonne, as the consensus governorship candidate in the state.

Speaking after endorsing the three candidates during a meeting of 17 council area chapters, in Aba, the groups; Peter Obi Grassroots Movement, POGM, and the Obidient Across Parties Alliance, OAPA, Abia State chapter further urged the people of the state to collect their Permanent Voters Card, PVC, to elect Ikonne and Ikpeazu in the election.

The groups which comprise members of different parties vowed to deliver Obi, as the next president of Nigeria in 2023.

Coordinator of the Peter Obi Grassroots Movement, Comrade Chetachi Ikpe, explained that as they are rooting for Obi to emerge president, Prof. Uche Ikonne to become the next Governor of Abia State as well as Governor Okezie Ikpeazu as the next Senator to represent Abia South Senatorial district.

He stated that their choices are based on the facts on the ground, especially the achievements of the trio whom he described as leaders with milk of human kindness and goal-oriented servants of the people.

The Coordinator, OBidient Across Parties Alliance, Chief Ndubueze Obiakwata said that his group is not interested in the name of any political party but in the performance and track records of individual candidates.

“We are not interested in PDP, APC, APGA or Labour Party. We are here to ensure that individuals who understand what leadership is all about are being voted into power. Nobody can question the integrity of Mr Peter Obi. In Abia State, we do not need many words when we talk about Governor Okezie Ikpeazu. We all have seen his handwork and we only need to push him to do more.

“As for Professor Uche Ikonne, his records in the academic field, especially administration, are clear. He is expected to build on so many good foundations put in place by Dr Okezie Ikpeazu. So, we’re going with these three as far as Abia is concerned.”

The two groups equally charged Abia people to go all out at the ward levels from the 12th to the 18th of November and check their details as the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, will begin the ward-level display of the permanent voters’ list.

“Those who registered during the last voter registration exercise should go and check their names and do their claims and objections to help INEC make necessary amendments needed in the voters list before the final list will be out. We need to get our voters card; that’s the only weapon we can use to elect our chosen leaders. Obi, Ikonne and Ikpeazu are men of proven integrity. They have a date with history in Nigeria, Abia State and Abia South senatorial district in 2023.”
