2023: Pete Edochie Reacts To Tinubu’s Presidential Ambition
Nollywood ace, Pete Edochie has weighed in on the raving subject of former Lagos state governor, Tinubu’s ambition to run for Presidency.
APC’s national leader, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu finally declared his bid to run for the nation’s top brass position after months of speculations.
His bid, however has been greeted by mixed reactions from diverse sections of Nigerians.
Reacting, the movie grandmaster insisted the nation cannot be led by aged aspirants like the national leader.
Launching an onslaught on the politician, Edochie suggested the Asiwaju of Lagos should opt out of the race for ”healthier” youths.
The septuagenarian, while speaking with BBC Radio stated it was long ”overdue” for Nigeria to have a leader of Igbo extraction.
He went on to berate the obvious political marginalisation of the Southeast.
“Many people like Tinubu are too old and too weak to run for the presidency. He has been in power for a long time until he was made the leader of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC.
But he should leave the position for those who are younger and healthier. Let’s be honest.
Igbo, Hausa, and Yoruba are the major ethnic groups in the country. Only once in the history of Nigeria has an Igbo person become the head of state in Nigeria.
Why has power not returned to the Southeast people? Is there a plot by the political elites to sideline the South-East? I’ve lived in the North. I speak Hausa. But it’s long overdue for Nigeria to have a leader of Igbo extraction”.
